Remember those days of university that we were satisfied when a teacher not teaching us some subjects and made it so easy for us to pass that course?
Have you ever worked somewhere ( as a developer) that there is really nothing much to do and you are drowning in your comfort zone?… Seems good right? Well not that much.
to be honest the thing is I believe you should do some of the work. Yes you can run away and refuse doing them but eventually you have to do them!
Back in those days of university I had “the Data Structure and Algorithms course” which I believed is a hard one. We found a teacher who was too busy to be present in the class! We passed the course sooo easy and learned nothing of it. I believe it was about 12 years ago or more. Now after 12 years, the problem is when I go for a job interview, my most horrifying nightmare is what if they ask me about data structures? If the person tells me what is the Big O for finding something in a dictionary or in an array, what should I answer? To be honest I have lost some opportunities because of those questions. Now I do not know if asking those questions in an interview is right or wrong and I have no clue about it. But my point is when you gain something because of some neglects, You will lose something in return. And I believe that sometimes the cost is too heavy! At least for me it has been so.
I remember I used to work in a company that I was being paid good and I did almost nothing there. Today when I want to mention that job experience in my resume, I do not know what to say about that period. Beside that I have a feeling that if during those days I had learned something, I could be more successful in my job career.
My point is that : Those times of neglect will come back to you one day. Be careful!
